The Georgia DPH card fee is never at risk, because DPH only asks for it after you are certified. That payment goes straight to the state, not through us.
Common Concerns Before a Georgia Medical Marijuana Evaluation
The questions Georgia patients ask most before they book, answered plainly.
Georgia Medical Cannabis Law in 2026: What Changed on July 1
Many Georgia card guides were written for the old Low THC Oil program. Here is what applies now. For the full legal picture, see our Georgia medical marijuana laws guide.
Visiting Georgia With Another State's Card
Georgia has no formal reciprocity. According to the Georgia Access to Medical Cannabis Commission, a card from another state may be recognized if that state allows the same possession as Georgia law and the visitor has been in Georgia for less than 45 days.
If you are moving to Georgia, you need a Georgia physician certification and a Georgia card.
What Happens After You Are Certified
Your physician uploads your certification and ID into the DPH registry. DPH checks everything and contacts you if a document is missing, then emails the payment link.
After payment, the card ships by UPS with a signature required, and DPH says to allow up to 10 business days. You can check your card status online.
Where Georgia Patients Buy Medical Cannabis
Georgia cardholders can buy only from licensed medical cannabis dispensaries and participating independent pharmacies. The Georgia Access to Medical Cannabis Commission keeps the current list.
Products must stay in the manufacturer's labeled pharmaceutical container showing the THC amount. Keep your card with you whenever you carry medical cannabis. New product types are still reaching shelves, so call ahead if you want a specific form.
What Other Georgia Card Guides Still Get Wrong
Several popular guides still quote a $25 state fee, say you pick the card up at a public health office, or list 21 qualifying conditions. As of July 2026, DPH charges $30 plus a $3.75 portal fee, ships cards by UPS, and lists 18 conditions.
Card length is also misreported as one or two years. DPH prints a five-year expiration on the card but requires annual physician certification.
What Your Card Does Not Allow
A Georgia card does not permit smoking, public use, or growing cannabis at home. Keep every product in its labeled pharmaceutical container, because that label is what shows lawful possession.
Driving while impaired is still a crime, and your employer can still enforce a drug-free workplace policy. The card is not a license for recreational use.
How Georgia's Program Got Here
Haleigh's Hope Act (HB 1) created the Low THC Oil registry in 2015, but gave patients no legal place to buy oil in Georgia. Georgia's Hope Act (HB 324) in 2019 set up in-state production, and the first dispensaries opened in 2023.
SB 220 in 2026 is the biggest change since, turning the oil-only registry into a medical cannabis program.
